A music video that brings together 16 of the worlds top musicians—some of whom have fled oppressive regimes—in a rousing musical plea to guarantee human rights for all.
The track, donated by Aterciopelados and arranged by fusion music guru Andres Levin, combines the voices of Hugh Masekela, Julieta Venegas, Stephen Marley, Angelique Kidjo, Yungchen Lhamo, Aterciopelados, Yerba Buena, Natacha Atlas, Rachid Taha, Kiran Ahluwalia, Chiwoniso and Emmanual Jal with those of U.S. artists Natalie Merchant, and Chali 2Na of Jurassic 5. Introduction by Laurence Fishburne.

Not so much ‘ …
Not so much ‘thousands of dead’; check Information Clearing House, 2.8 million in Iraq, and counting.
There is a Commandment, ‘Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour’; religious or not, well-meaning people must agree with that. So where are the people demanding evidence to Muslim guilt in 9/11? Most just take Bushco’s word for it; even the FBI say they have no evidence linking OBL to 9/11, which was of course the basis for the invasions and ‘War on Terror’. Forgive digression!

The UN is largely a …
The UN is largely a talking-shop controlled by the US. If they can’t buy or blackmail delegates to vote their way, the US ignores it, and does what it wants anyhow. Unfortunate, but true.
I wish I had all the money a lot of you well-meaning guys and gals must have spent on rose-tinted glasses!

I think the point …
I think the point of this video is it’s easy to standby and do or say nothing–yes, the US has behaved horribly especially in the past 8 years and I am personally ashamed of its actions in Iraq and elsewhere. But, the video speaks to all of us -as individuals we can each do our part and make a difference.

Very dramatic, …
Very dramatic, highlighting some real problems, wonderfully expressing the fervent hope of many that we can become one people, or at least receive the minimum of justice. But what to do about it?
It’s interesting to me that when the US upper class wants to do something it’s somehow a moral obligation, and when the normal people support an action, it’s the US acting as the world’s policeman. Isolationism and ill understood/deceitful interventionism are each as bad as the other for the US’ people
